Today in Rome, at the Press Room of the Chamber of Deputies , the presentation of the EcoMonitoring project took place , designed to introduce advanced technological tools for environmental monitoring in port areas . Particular attention is paid to water quality data, collected with multiple samples per day in the shortest time possible so as not to impact port traffic.

The initiative was selected within the Call for Industrial Research and Experimental Development in the domains of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics issued by the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) under the European program RAISE ( Robotics and AI for Socio-economic Empowerment), implemented within the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Mission 4 funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU .

NeMeA Sistemi is developing the project in collaboration with AISMA, HEDYA, the Link Campus University of Rome, the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of the University of Cagliari and ONTM – National Observatory for the Protection of the Sea.

Ecomonitoring uses real-time data collection through RADAR/SAR images and smart buoys towed by autonomous and electric maritime surface drones (USVs). This data is then analyzed with Deep Learning algorithms to generate timely warnings on potential environmental threats .

The project aims to offer an economically sustainable and easy-to-use tool , which at the moment has been designed for the Port of Genoa but has a national and international relevance given that it is suitable for both large ports and small-sized entities that require timely and precise detection. Among the objectives are the timely detection of flammable or combustible substances on the surface or the optimization of remediation and protection interventions of port infrastructures.

“ Ecomonitoring fits into the overall environmental monitoring ecosystem of NeMeA” – explained Michele P. Boella, CEO NeMeA Sistemi – “To date, we have completed the laboratory tests and are in the final integration phase to perfect the algorithm training. The RAISE program, with its collaborative environment between research, industry and institutions, offers the possibility of accelerating this process. Genoa is certainly an important test bed but the solution is replicable and adaptable to different contexts, also in order to increase the amount of data collected and refine the analysis model”.

Among the speakers at the event were the Hon. Salvatore Deidda, President of the IX Commission "Transport, Post, Telecommunications" and sponsor of the initiative, Roberto Minerdo (President ONTM), Michele P. Boella (Ceo NeMeA Sistemi Srl ), Amir Topalović (Ceo Aisma Srl ), Mariella Sole (CEO Hedya Srl).
